The Power of Introverts
Our students love TED talks. Who doesn’t? Here at B-Speak! we use these talks to promote discussion and help our students increase vocabulary and improve listening skills. And the interactive transcripts that accompany each talk provide us with valuable opportunities for additional speaking activities.
It may come as no surprise that among our students’ favorite TED talks is Susan Cain’s “The power of Introverts” — after all, it’s one of the most popular TED talks of all time and has been viewed over 10 million times.
But we like to go even deeper, using Cain’s bestseller, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking to explore the super-charged environment of Harvard Business School, the dominant values of American business culture, and the implications of these values for Asian-American business people.
At B-Speak! we promote open discussion of these cultural issues so that we can work actively to help our students overcome their shyness or hesitancy in speaking. We help each student find his or her own power.
